As I've begun to formalize my investment strategy in private companies, the portfolio has grown to include smaller companies where I own a majority position. A recent conversation sparked the idea that I should publicly share the values that guide my portfolio companies. Not every portfolio company has this exact list, but this is the baseline that each operator starts from. I believe that companies who are willing to go out of business to protect their values will create more enterprise value (EV) through the trust they build with customers, employees, and others. Here are our values.
Automate Everything
Create an economic advantage by embracing process optimization and automating everything possible (including your job). Your job today should not be your job tomorrow.
Be Remarkable
Never sacrifice what makes you remarkable.
Celebrate Courage
Being smart isn't enough. Celebrate courage over intellect.
Deliver Results
Take action. Move with intention and without fear. Prioritize impact over activity. Optimize your calendar for deep focus work.
Know The Details
Don't be operationally lazy. Know the details of your business. Quickly distill the insights.
Know Yourself
Deeply understand yourself, your environment and current conditions. Don’t fake it.
Move Without Permission
Build businesses that devalue gatekeepers. Move without permission.
Pursue Big Dreams
Dream big. Iterate small. Chase a big vision with strong fundamental economic tailwinds.
Remain Transparent
Remain transparent with customers, employees, partners, peers and yourself —even when it hurts.
Remove Risk
Reward predictability, quality and velocity while remaining numerically oriented.
Stay Curious
Be hyper observant. Dialectic. Fight bias. Reflect and change your mind (often).
Tell Emotive Stories
Tell emotive stories that inspire people to reach their true goals.
